Description Professional beach volleyball returns to the Southern Suburbs of Athens from Friday, June 29th until Sunday, July 1st 2007 as the first ever Vari National Open will take place at the ultra-modern facilities of Vari Sports Club. A double-gender event, the Vari National Open is the third stop on the Hellenic Beach Volleyball Tour and will feature the vast majority of top-flight Greek teams, including Women’s national team and former FIVB World Tour silver medalists Maria Tsiartsiani/Thalia Koutroumanidou and Men’s national team and Olympic hopefuls Thanos Michalopoulos/Manos Xenakis, guaranteeing a tournament full of spectacular beach volleyball. Celebrity Exhibition Match for Philanthropy The Vari National Open will feature a first for Hellenic Beach Volleyball, a celebrity exhibition match that will take place before the final of the tournament on Sunday, July 1st. The exhibition will have a philanthropic cause and proceeds from the event will benefit W.I.N. Hellas (Women in Need). Entertainers and athletes such as Kostas Sommer, Orthoula Papadakou, Katerina Laspa and Alexandros Parthenis are expected to take part in what promises to be a truly crowd-pleasing event. Beach Volleyball Handbook by Efi Sfyri In addition, the official release of the new Beach Volleyball handbook, written by former Greek champion Efi Sfyri, will take place during the weekend. The handbook, the first of its kind in Greece, is a detailed yet fun compilation of strategies, tactics and exercises designed to help players from the beginner level and up. Proceeds from the sale of handbooks during the weekend festivities will also benefit the charity W.I.N.The Vari National Open 2007 marks the first time in five years that a major national tournament will take place in the southern suburbs of Athens, an area full of beaches that have historically been the center of beach volleyball in Greece.
